Home cook in kitchen

Hi, I’m Ronnie

I cook real Chinese food in a real home kitchen. No culinary school, no restaurant background — just a deep passion for food and years of dedicated self-learning.

My Story

Growing up in China, I was always fascinated by the magic of cooking. But it wasn’t until I started my own family that this childhood interest turned into a true obsession.

I wanted to feed my loved ones healthy, delicious, and truly authentic Chinese meals. So, I threw myself into researching traditional techniques, experimenting with ingredients, and testing recipes endlessly in my own kitchen. Through years of trial, error, and genuine dedication, my culinary skills grew tremendously.

Along the way, I realized how hard it is for home cooks outside of China to find reliable, authentic recipes. The ‘Chinese food’ at local restaurants was often sweet and sticky, nothing like the real meals we eat at home. That’s why I created Homestyle Wok.

Every recipe here is the result of my personal journey — tested in my home kitchen, written with exact measurements, and designed for anyone who wants to bring authentic Chinese flavors to their own family table.

What you’ll find here:

  • Exact ingredient lists with metric and imperial units
  • Step-by-step photos for every stage — from prep to plating
  • Cultural context: why this dish matters, where it comes from
  • Wok tips that actually work on a regular home stove
  • No fusion, no shortcuts, no compromise on flavor

Thanks for being here. Now grab your wok — let’s cook.

What Makes Homestyle Wok Different

Exact Measurements

No guessing. Every ingredient is weighed and timed so you get the same result I do.

Real Home Kitchen

I cook on a regular stove with a regular wok. If it works here, it’ll work in your kitchen.

Cultural Stories

Every dish has a story. Learn why Kung Pao Chicken is named after a Qing Dynasty governor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your recipes authentic?

Yes — and I mean actually authentic. These are the dishes I grew up eating, adapted only where necessary for ingredient availability outside China. I never dumb down flavors for Western palates.

Do I need a carbon steel wok?

A carbon steel wok is ideal, but you can start with any large skillet. I include wok-substitution notes in every stir-fry recipe. When you’re ready to upgrade, I recommend a 14-inch flat-bottom carbon steel wok.

Can I share your recipes on my blog or social media?

You’re welcome to share a link to any recipe, and I love seeing your recreations — please tag me! However, please don’t copy and paste full recipes or photos without permission.

How do you test your recipes?

Every recipe is cooked at least three times in my home kitchen before it goes live. I test with both a high-BTU wok burner and a standard home stove to make sure it works for everyone.

Do you offer private cooking classes or collaborations?

I occasionally partner with brands and creators who align with the Homestyle Wok mission. For business inquiries, please reach out via the Contact page.
